California's Coast

It's so hard to decide which destinations to stop at along the California Coast when you have less than a week to visit. Add a few kids to the car, and you have to include some stops that will be fun for them too!

I decided to split the destinations between some photography spots for me and some points of interest for the family. Hearst Castle and the Monterey Bay Aquarium kept the husband and kids happy. Garrapata State Park kept me and my Canon happy. The first few nights we stayed at Moonstone Beach. And the last few nights were spent in Carmel by the Sea not far from the aquarium.

Weather played a major role in our activities. A major spring storm swept across most of California, bringing quite a bit of rain. My photography time was very limited, but I did manage to get a few good shots in. The most frustrating part was trying to photograph McWay Falls in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. The first attempt was at mid day. There was a light mist which turned into a down pour by the time I had my camera set up. I took some shots anyway. The second attempt was on our way home, also at mid day. This time the rain had stopped and I was able to get a decent shot for mid day.

McWay Falls at mid day. The rain had stopped and the storm was clearing out.

I think perhaps my favorite shot of this trip was the Calli Lilies at sunset nestled in a small valley with a stream flowing out to the ocean.

Hi Tony. Unfortunately, I don't run any workshops. My kids keep me pretty busy and they do come first. Also, I feel I have much more to learn before I can pass any knowledge along to another photographer. Thanks so much for visiting my website and taking time to check out stuff!
